Overview

Three of the most renowned coastal towns south of Colombo are none other than Bentota, Aluthgama and Induruwa. Its close proximity to the capital of Colombo has made it a beach holiday hotspot with many luxurious beach resorts that have sprung up to keep up with its flock of tourists. The beaches offer golden sands, blue waters and the tropical sun. In addition the towns are famous for its water sports, fishing and its many antique boutiques as well as markets.

These towns are all famous for one thing and that is their pristine blue waters. As these are tourist towns there are plenty of things to do such as water sports along the beach and Bentota also offers diving experiences and snorkeling just to name a few. Aluthgama and Bentota are also famous for their lakes where there is abundance to fish. Fishing trawlers or small boats can be rented out for the day to try out your fishing skills. The lake on Bentota is perfect for the water sports enthusiast as jet skiing, wind surfing, kite surfing and Para sailing are all widely available for the adrenaline junkie.

These towns are also famous for its antique shops which have a wide range of antiques from the Dutch, British and Portuguese era. In addition one can find many colorful batiks, precious and semi precious jewellery. There are many markets where one can experience the coastal Sri Lankan village life.

Induruwa is slight quieter than Bentota and Aluthgama. The beaches are beautiful however they are more secluded. For those who want a relaxing environment away from the tourists and tourist towns. There are no adrenaline rush water sports that Bentota offers neither are there many bustling shops but for those seeking for the rush Bentota is only five minutes away.

These towns offer the tourist luxurious accommodation with fine dining and the hotels along the beach have bars, however the towns themselves are fishing villages where the village folk thrive on tourism to make a living. However the beach atmosphere in these towns is one not to be missed.
