Overview
Just over a kilometre south of Dondra town, a British built octagonal lighthouse (1889) marks the southernmost point in Sri Lanka. Standing 54 meters tall, the light house presents sweeping views of up and down the coast. To the south from this tropical coast here, beyond the view of local fishing boats riding the indigo waves there is nothing until the Antarctica.
Also known as the Dondra Head Lighthouse, this offshore lighthouse in Dondra, Sri Lanka is operated and maintained by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority. It is located on Dondra Head near the southernmost point in Sri Lanka and is the tallest lighthouse in the country. It was designed by Sir James Nicholas Douglass and constructed by William Douglass.
