Keerimalai
Keerimalai is a coastal area located in the northern region of Sri Lanka,
near the town of Jaffna. It is renowned for its natural hot springs and
sacred Hindu temple, making it a popular destination for pilgrims, tourists,
and locals seeking relaxation and spiritual rejuvenation.
The main attraction in Keerimalai is the Keerimalai Naguleswaram Kovil, a
historic Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. According to Hindu mythology,
the temple is believed to have been built by the sage Nagula Muni, who was
granted a boon by Lord Shiva to establish the temple and bless the area with
healing waters. The temple complex includes a sacred pond fed by natural
underground hot springs, which are revered for their therapeutic properties
and believed to possess healing powers.
Devotees visit the Keerimalai Naguleswaram Kovil to bathe in the holy waters
of the temple pond, seeking spiritual purification and relief from ailments
and afflictions. The temple is especially crowded during auspicious days and
religious festivals, when pilgrims from all over Sri Lanka flock to receive
blessings and participate in religious rituals and ceremonies.
In addition to its religious significance, Keerimalai is also known for its
scenic beauty and tranquil coastal surroundings. Visitors can enjoy stunning
views of the Indian Ocean and the northern coastline, as well as
opportunities for swimming, snorkeling, and sunbathing at nearby beaches.
