Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery

Kosgoda Turtle Conservation Project, commonly referred to as Kosgoda Turtle Beach, is a renowned turtle hatchery and conservation center located in the coastal town of Kosgoda, Sri Lanka. Established in the late 1970s, the project aims to protect endangered sea turtles and conserve their nesting habitats along the island's coastline. Kosgoda Turtle Beach plays a crucial role in turtle conservation efforts by providing a safe environment for nesting turtles, as well as caring for and rehabilitating injured or sick turtles. The hatchery collects turtle eggs from vulnerable nesting sites along the coast, relocates them to protected areas within the hatchery, and monitors their development until they hatch. Visitors to Kosgoda Turtle Beach have the opportunity to learn about the conservation efforts undertaken by the project and witness various stages of the turtle life cycle. Guided tours are available, allowing visitors to observe baby turtles hatching from their eggs, learn about different turtle species, and even participate in the release of hatchlings into the ocean.
